Host guide
Host playbook: running Emoji Master
Emoji Master hides a movie, a saying, a place, or a dish behind a handful of emoji. It is a scored guessing game, so it works for team socials, offsites, and breakout sessions where you want a little friendly competition and plenty of laughs.

How a round works
Each round shows one emoji puzzle with four possible answers. Everyone answers on their own device at the same time. After the reveal, the host sees the correct answer, a one-line explanation, how many people got it right, and the live scoreboard.
When you create the room you choose a category (movies, sayings and idioms, places, or food and drink, or a mix), a difficulty (mixed, easy, or medium), and 5, 8, or 10 rounds.
Choosing a category for your group
Movies and sayings lean on English-language pop culture and idioms. For a team across several countries, places and food tend to travel better. For a mostly native-English team, a mixed deck gives the most variety.
If people are new to each other, start on easy. A puzzle that most people get makes the first reveal feel good; save medium for later rounds.
Hosting tips
- Screen share the host view and say the emoji out loud for anyone dialled in without video.
- Give people a few seconds before the reveal. The arguing in the chat is half the fun.
- After a popular wrong answer, ask someone who picked it what they saw.
- Some emoji look slightly different on different devices. If a puzzle looks ambiguous on your screen, say so before the reveal.
- Puzzles avoid country flags, because some Windows computers show them as letters.
When to pick something else
For emoji puzzles about workplace phrases, use Emoji Pictionary. For a no-wrong-answer pulse check, use This or That or Rapid Fire.

FAQ
Common questions
How is Emoji Master different from Emoji Pictionary?
Emoji Pictionary uses everyday and workplace phrases. Emoji Master is category-based: each puzzle hides a movie, a saying, a place, or a dish, and the host can pick one category or a mix. It leans more toward pop culture and general knowledge.
How does Emoji Master work in a meeting?
The host shares a room link. Each round shows an emoji puzzle with four possible answers, everyone picks one at the same time, and then the correct answer and the scoreboard are revealed.
Can I choose the category and difficulty?
Yes. When you create the room you can choose a mixed deck or one of movies, sayings and idioms, places, or food and drink, plus mixed, easy, or medium difficulty and 5, 8, or 10 rounds.
Do emoji look different on different devices?
Slightly. Most emoji look similar across phones and laptops, but small details can differ. If a puzzle looks ambiguous on your screen, mention it before the reveal. The puzzles avoid country flag emoji because some Windows computers do not draw them.
Do players need an account?
No. Players join with a nickname only, from a link or a five-character room code.
