Icebreaker Question Generator
Pick a category, say how well your team knows each other, and shuffle through 120 work-safe questions written for meetings. Copy one into the chat or build a set of five.
Quick and light · about 15 seconds each
What is the best thing you ate this week?
One-sentence answers. Good for standups and the first minute of a call.
20 questions match these settings.

How to use the generator
Start with the category that matches the moment. Use Quick and light when you have under two minutes, Work and team for kickoffs and retros, and Remote and hybrid when most people are on video. Then set how well your team knows each other. If people have only just met, keep it on “new to each other”; that setting hides the questions that ask for personal context.
Running one question well
- Read the question aloud once, then give people ten seconds of silence before calling on anyone.
- Answer first yourself. A host who answers in one sentence sets the length for everyone else.
- In a group of more than about eight people, ask for answers in the chat instead of going around the call.
- If a question does not land, skip it without comment and press Next.
Choosing questions for new and familiar teams
New groups do best with low-stakes questions about everyday habits, because there is no risk of saying the wrong thing. Teams that have worked together for a while can handle questions about what they learned, what changed their mind, or what they are proud of. The two settings on this page exist so you do not have to judge that for every question.
Want everyone to answer at once?
A single question works when the group is small. For bigger groups, a live format where everyone taps an answer on their own device is faster. Try Would You Rather or This or That, or use the meeting game picker to choose.
Frequently asked questions
How many questions are in the generator?
There are 120 questions across six categories. Each one is tagged by how personal it is, so the "new to each other" setting only shows the ones that are comfortable for people who have just met.
Are the questions safe for work?
Yes. They avoid politics, religion, health, money, and relationship topics, and they are written so a person can answer in a sentence or two without sharing anything they would not want a manager to hear.
Can I use the questions in Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams?
Yes. Copy a question into the meeting chat, or read it aloud and ask people to reply in the chat. Nothing needs to be installed and nobody needs an account.
Will I see the same question twice?
The shuffle picks randomly within the category you chose and avoids repeating the question you just saw, but it does not keep a full history, so a question can come back after a while. With around 20 per category and filter, that is rare in a short session.
Does the page store or send my questions anywhere?
No. The questions are part of the page, and shuffling happens in your browser. The site only records that the tool was used, not what you copied.
